Rail projects: dilemma over land acquisition

May 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - BENGALURU:

The Karnataka government is in a dilemma over acquiring land for railway projects. It is yet to decide on whether to acquire land in accordance with the Land Acquisition (Amendment Bill) or the Act passed in 2013 by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government or the new ordinance passed by the NDA Government.

Though the State government has decided to acquire 2,500 acres for the 252-km Gadag-Wadi railway line in the first phase, no decision has been taken on the mode of acquisition in view of the prevailing “confusion” at a meeting of senior railway and State government officials, headed by the Chief Minister Siddarmaiah, on Wednesday.

Minister for Infrastructure Roshan Baig said the government would arrive at a conclusion after consulting legal experts soon.
