Racket in LPG misuse unearthed

Fraud and Misappropriation Squad officials of the Central Crime Branch on Thursday raided a shed in Karim Saab Layout, near Hegganahalli here, and unearthed a racket involving illegal refilling of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders from domestic cylinders.

The police arrested Syed Habib Kasim Saab (30), who lives in the shed, and seized 41 cylinders, filling devices, and a weighing machine, among others from him.

The police said the accused used to siphon LPG off from domestic cylinders and transfer the contents to commercial, auto and lighting gas cylinders.

Nine arrested

Personnel attached to the Women and Narcotic Squad of the Central Crime Branch arrested nine persons, including two women, on charges of running a prostitution racket.

The police, in a release here on Thursday, said that they received information about the racket and raided a guesthouse in the Cottonpet police station limits on Wednesday night.
