The 2015-Puttaraj Gawai Award was presented to Hindustani musician Madhup Mudgal of New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr. Mudgal said, “I am dedicating the award to my guru Kumar Gandharv who has been my mentor.”

Playwright Girish Karnad was a special guest at the 102nd birth anniversary celebrations of Puttaraj Gawai. He said, “I hope the much-awaited award from the Karnataka government in the name of Panchakshari Gawai would be announced soon. This would be the biggest honour to be bestowed on Puttaraj Gawai, who was a lifelong student of Panchakshari Gawai.”

Mr. Karnad said that the region of Dharwad had produced numerous musicians and this kind of an award would be a silver lining to the melodic dynamics of the expanse.
