‘Punish officials behind false documents in encroachments’

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

Transparency International India’s Karnataka State Chapter has demanded that the State government punish officials who were responsible for supporting creation of false documents in various land encroachments.

Secretary of the TII-KSC Mathews Phillip told presspersons here on Saturday that the recent demolition drive against encroachments on lake-beds in Bengaluru had exposed the complete breakdown of governance as only that could have allowed such large-scale violations to go on for so many decades.

Vice-chairman of TII-KSC S.R. Hiremath said it was the responsibility of the government to provide alternative sites to those who lost their homes during the demolition drive as they had invested their hard earned money and constructed houses for living and not for investment purposes.
