Public transport in the city to be fuelled by CNG

June 21, 2014 12:31 am | Updated 12:31 am IST - Bangalore:

The State government is planning to gradually convert the public transport system in Bangalore from diesel-fuelled to CNG-fuelled on the lines of Delhi and Mumbai, said Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The Minister on Friday said this year, initially BMTC and KSRTC had decided to get new luxury buses fitted with CNG kits by the manufacturer. “The Centre has sanctioned 310 buses for BMTC and 69 for KSRTC. We have asked manufacturers to supply CNG-based buses instead of diesel,” he said.

Apart from this, KSRTC has booked 160 new buses, which would also run on CNG. Delivery of the buses would start in the next nine months.

The entire public transport bus fleet in the State would be converted to CNG in the next 10 years, he said.
