The top two ranks in the science stream of the second Pre-University Course (PUC) have changed after revaluation. The first rank has been bagged by Ravish Suresh Bannihatti of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala of Mysuru, while the second rank has been secured by Vaishnavi Ballal from Expert PU College in Mangaluru.

Both these students had applied for revaluation in English. Ravish secured eight additional marks, which took his total up to 597 out of 600 marks. Vaishnavi bagged six additional marks that increased her total to 596 out of 600.

Ravish had originally secured 589 out of 600. After revaluation, his total score increased to 597, said Swami Muktidanandaji from the Vidyashala.

Ravish secured 100 each in Sanskrit, physics, mathematics and biology, 99 in chemistry and 98 in English. He is the son of B.P. Suresh, Assistant Director, Karnataka Milk Federation, Bengaluru, and Dr. Nalini.

Expressing happiness over Ravish’s achievement, Swami Muktidanandaji said he has proved that students could combine extra curricular activities with academics and yet emerge as toppers. Incidentally, this is the second time in recent years that a student from the city has emerged topper after revaluation.

Vaishnavi had scored a centum in five subjects and 90 marks in English. With six more marks in English after revaluation, she said her teachers pushed her to apply for revaluation. “Though I am happy with six marks, I am not ecstatic,” she said and added that she hopes to become a neurosurgeon like her father Rajesh Ballal.

With a ranking of 192 in the entrance examination of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, she hopes to get a seat in that premier institution. “My next preference will be seat in other premier institutions for which I am writing National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) – 2,” she said. Following Common Entrance Test, Ms. Ballal was ranked 22nd in the medical stream and 7th in the Indian System of Medicine stream.
