A day before the second Pre-University Course (PUC) mathematics examination, there were reports of question papers being sold in Malur and Mulbagal of Kolar district. The Department of Pre University Education, however, denied the paper had been leaked.
Late Monday, several television channels claimed that the question paper had been leaked and that the examination would be postponed.
Rashmi V. Mahesh, Director of PU Education, rubbished the rumours and told The Hindu that the examination would be held as scheduled.
She said that the department had taken several measures to prevent leaks.
“There is only one version of the question paper. We maintain high confidentiality. The question papers are sent to the examination centres from the treasury at 7.30 a.m. on the day of the examination,” she said.
She said that the TV channels had not contacted the department to confirm if the paper had indeed been leaked.
She added that in mofussil towns, miscreants were selling three or four different versions of the supposed question paper.
A senior department officials said that such attempts were prompted by the urge to make a quick buck.
“The miscreants may have taken important questions or reprinted last year's question paper. There is no way the question paper could have been leaked,” the officials said.
However, Ms. Mahesh also said that if it turned out that the question paper being sold matched that set by the department, the exam would be held again.
