The principal Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday made it clear that it would continue its protest against the government till it referred the case of alleged suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough probe.
However, the JD(S) did not press for a CBI probe, but trained its guns on Mr. Kempaiah, Adviser to the Home Minister, holding him responsible for “all the blunders” allegedly committed by the government with respect to the case.
The BJP, which petitioned Governor Vajubhai R. Vala on the issue on Monday and appealed to him to direct the State government to refer the issue to CBI, maintained that it was not possible to bring out the truth through the ongoing CID probe.
‘Govt. hushing up issue’
Accusing the government of trying to hush up the issue, BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa maintained that only the CBI could unearth the truth.
However, JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy observed that: “The CBI has not completed its probe into the eight cases, including IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s suicide, handed over by the government so far.” Instead, he demanded the resignation of Mr. Kempaiah.
Resignation welcomed
Welcoming Minister George’s resignation, Mr. Kumaraswamy said: “Had he taken the decision earlier, the legislature session would have continued providing an opportunity for the elected representatives to discuss issues plaguing the State.”
