Protest during IGNOU counselling

November 22, 2014 01:01 am | Updated 01:01 am IST - BENGALURU

Protests broke out during the B.Ed. admission counselling conducted by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at its Regional Centre here on Friday after students were turned away from admissions for not belonging to a particular reserved category.

IGNOU is conducting counselling for admissions to a two-year B.Ed. course exclusively for in-service teachers. Following the protests, the counselling was delayed by a few hours.

IGNOU officials said several candidates had not submitted their caste certificates along with their applications.

However, it was later decided to offer those who were turned away on Friday seats in the general merit category.
