Process of diversion of farm land simplified

The State government has simplified the process of diversion of agricultural land for industrial development by notifying an amendment to Section 109 of the Karnataka Act of 1962.

A notification has been issued for deemed conversion of agriculture lands for non-agriculture purposes such as industrial development, educational institutions, places of worship, and a housing project approved by the State government.

The notification was issued to reduce the delay in according approval for purchase of land under Section 109 and also for converting agriculture land for industrial purposes.

“Lands allotted for industrial purposes will not be allowed to be used for any other purpose other than industrial purposes,” an official in the Law Department said.

It would also help or facilitate purchase of land up to 25 to 30 acres without extensive regulatory procedures and permit deemed conversion for such land within stipulated time.

The deemed conversion of land would facilitate implementation of the new industrial policy (2014-19) approved by the State Cabinet last week, the official said.

The industry, trade and commerce bodies have welcomed the notification.
