‘Probe Sanskrit varsity irregularities’

February 24, 2013 10:40 am | Updated 10:42 am IST - Bangalore

The irregularities in recruitment to Karnataka Samskrit University, along with the other maladministration charges, must be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), demanded Rachodi Shivacharya Swami of Bettapura Math, Mysore.

He told journalists here on Saturday that he had withdrawn his protest following written assurance from the Vice-Chancellor to look into the allegations of irregularities.

The seer alleged that all the recruitments between July 2012 and January 2013 were not as per the procedure, and unqualified candidates were appointed. Of the 37 teaching and non-teaching staff posts, 26 had been filled by the recruitment committee headed by Vice-Chancellor Mallepuram G. Venkatesh. He alleged the committee had misled the Syndicate to favour the candidates.

Moreover, though the age limit was 40 years for candidates under general category, it was extended to 44 years to accommodate a candidate, and a Syndicate was meeting convened in a hurry. Had the age limit been increased earlier, more eligible candidates could have applied.

He cited several examples where recruitment rules, age limit, past experience and educational qualification were not adhered to.
