Probe into H1N1 death during power outage

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash R Patil ordered a probe into the death of a H1N1-infected person at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Disease (RGICD) on Sunday during a power outage.

Mr Patil, along with Health Minister U T Khader, visited RGICD on Monday.

“I visited the H1N1 ward, spoke to the patients and doctors as well. I have asked the Director of Medical Education S S Harasoor to submit the report within a day or two based on which we will decide the future course of action,” he said.

The family of B.V Ganesh (53), an auto consultant from Mysuru Road, who had been admitted to RGICD with H1N1 and bilateral pneumonia on February 20, had protested on Sunday alleging medical negligence.

They claimed that the power outage in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) early on Sunday had cut off the artificial ventilation to the patient because of which he died.
