The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) is likely to go to court against the new regulation norms that were announced by the government earlier this month for starting new schools. Speaking at a press conference here on Friday after the meeting, D. Shashi Kumar, general secretary of KAMS, said that the new guidelines to open new schools in the State were not feasible. He said that the KAMS had submitted a memorandum to the Education Department officials to withdraw the order. “We will first stage a protest and take the matter to the Chief Minister and Education Minister. If they fail to address our concerns, we will be forced to move the court,” he said. He also said that the new registration norms were also applicable to schools that wanted to open new classes as well. Syed M., chairperson of the New Florence Public School in Sanjaynagar, which has applied for permission for classes six and seven for the 2015-2016, said their proposal was returned and schools were asked to comply with the new registration guidelines if they wanted to get the nod.
Other school managements also expressed concern over the increase in registration fees and certain infrastructural requirements and said that the increase in registration fee would trickle down to the parents. “The new norms will ensure that small private schools that cater to the middleclass parents cannot be opened,” Mr. Kumar said.
