A 25-year-old private firm employee and a cab driver were stuck inside a mangled car for over five hours at Shivananda Circle, after a speeding goods truck rammed into their car late on Friday night. Due to the impact of the collision, the car was dragged between the truck and the guard rail for several metres.
Nagaraju and the driver Ganesh sustained multiple fracture injuries. Semi-conscious, they could not get out of the car till Fire and Emergency Service personnel arrived and cut open the mangled car doors.
The rescue team with the help of two earth-movers and two cranes had to cut open the car and rescue the trapped men, in a five-hour-long operation. After this, the lorry was shifted with the help of cranes seven to eight feet away. The injured were shifted to a private hospital and are said to be out of danger. The truck driver escaped, leaving the truck behind.
The High Grounds police have taken up a case and efforts are on to catch the driver.
