Over 30 passengers of a private bus had a miraculous escape when a private bus caught fire after ramming into a median. The accident occurred after the bus knocked down three men on a motorcycle on the busy K.R. Puram Road on Tuesday.
The trio on motorcycle coming from the one way were trying to take a U-turn when the private bus coming from Kolar collided with it head-on.
The trio, who sustained injuries were rushed to a private hospital, were later shifted to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.
According to the police, the bus driver after colliding with the motorcycle, rammed into the median. Due to the impact, the fuel tank caught fire. The passengers alighted the bus with help from passers-by before the fire engulfed the vehicle.
A traffic constable identified as Suresh, who was also in the bus, helped the others to get down.
Two fire tenders rushed to the spot along with the police and helped to put out the fire. The driver sensing danger escaped from the scene. Traffic on the busy road was disrupted for over an hour.
