Prison searched

The inmates of two security blocks in Bangalore Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara were in for a surprise when the city police, led by Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), conducted a surprise check on Saturday night.

The team seized around Rs. 40,000 in cash, three cellphones, three SIM cards and three battery units from the inmates.

According to the jail authorities, the search was conducted as per a Government Order issued by the Prisons Department recently.

According to the GO, the jail authorities have been directed to seek help from the city police to conduct regular, surprise searches. The central prison houses over 4,000 prisoners.
