The Sampegehalli police have booked a case against the priest of a local church for allegedly beating up members of Karnataka Catholic Christians Kannada Association after they demanded that he conduct prayers in the local language.

The victim Refel Raj, who is the secretary of the association, objected to the priest of St. Mary’s Church in Hegde Nagar conducting prayers in Tamil. Enraged by this, Fr. Jacob allegedly slapped Refel and roughed up the women who came to Refel’s rescue.

Mr. Refel later went to Sampigehalli police station and filed a complaint. The police have taken up a case.
