Air Commodore Parvez Khokhar (retd.), who was found dead in his house on Monday, is one of several Indian Air Force officers (IAF) who met with unnatural deaths.

In October 2011, Sqn Ldr Baldev Singh (retd.), who was associated with the development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Nandi Hills near here.

The 58-year-old was Director (Corporate Planning and Marketing), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL).

Earlier that same year, in March, Group Captain Motilal Neluri, a retired Indian Air Force officer, died when he fell down an elevator shaft.

He was trying to wriggle out of the elevator, which was stuck between the fifth and sixth floors of his apartment in Jal Vayu Towers, Sadananda Nagar, and died after he sustained multiple head injuries.

3 killed in crash

In another case, in March 2009, a Saras Prototype II, an indigenously developed multi-role transport aircraft which was on a test flight, crashed near Bidadi, killing three Indian Air Force officers — Pilot Wing Commander K. Praveen, co-pilot Wing Commander D.K. Shah and flight test engineer Squadron Leader S. Ilyaraj.

They were charred to death as the aircraft burst into flames soon after it crashed in an open field.
