PR Bill: Governor seeks clarification

April 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - BENGALURU:

Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala has sought clarifications from the State government on some of the issues related to the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill 2015 that seeks to make voting mandatory in gram panchayat elections.

It is the second time in less than a week that the Governor has sought clarification.

Earlier he had sought clarification on the ordinance seeking trifurcation of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. The Bill on panchayat raj had been adopted by both the Houses of the State legislature during the recent budget session and sent to the Governor for his assent. However, seeking to play down the episode, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil told reporters that he had personally met the Governor and replied to all the clarifications.

He also maintained that there was no possibility of the episode of seeking clarifications coming in the way of holding the elections to gram panchayats on time.
