Home Minister R. Ashok, who is also in-charge Minister for Bangalore South, said 130 flood-affected locations had been identified in the city and 60 squads had been formed to tackle rain-related emergencies.
Mr. Ashok, who held a meeting with Housing Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, in-charge Minister for Bangalore North, and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Siddaiah on Saturday, told presspersons that apart from the 130 points, 86 low-lying areas had been identified in different parts of the city.
Many low-lying areas in Ejipura and Mysore Road were inundated by overflowing storm-water drains, he said. Some 26 trees were uprooted and three compound walls collapsed, he said.
Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre officials told The Hindu that areas around Lalbagh received 110 mm of rain while Hesaraghatta received 127 mm of rain on Friday night. The BBMP, the Bangalore Development Authority and other agencies have removed silt and cleaned half the storm-water drains. Mr. Ashok instructed officials to speed up works related to storm-water drains, construction of bridges and walls in water-logged areas of the city.
