Residents of Indiranagar, Marathahalli, K.R. Puram, Kagadasapura and many other areas spent several hours on Thursday and Friday without power. Supply was disrupted on Thursday night after heavy rain brought down trees that snapped power lines and damaged electricity poles.

Supply had not been restored even 24 hours later. Bescom officials maintained that supply would be restored by Friday night. However, supply had not been restored till late in the night on Friday.

Eshan Das (name changed), a resident of Marathahalli, told The Hindu that power supply got disrupted around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday. “It was restored on Friday evening but went off again a few hours later. We have not been able to pump water or charge mobile phones,” he said.

Bescom officials said the utility’s helpline received 1,949 complaints in just two hours on Thursday. Over 50 electricity poles were damaged. Staff were working round the clock to restore power supply, they claimed.
