A gang of four, posing as police personnel, assaulted and robbed a family in Green Glen Layout, HSR Layout, on Friday night.

The complainant, Ramesh (31), a mechanic, was woken up by his mother late Friday night after she heard the knock on the door. Ramesh saw through the window four men standing outside the door. They introduced themselves as police personnel who had come to search his house. Though initially he was firm on not opening the door, a little while later, Ramesh opened the door. The four men barged into the house, accused Ramesh of selling liquor in the house and demanded the keys to the cupboard to conduct a search. When Ramesh tried to protest, he was assaulted. Then Ramesh, his wife and mother were tied up and the gang of four robbed them of Rs. 30,000 in cash and gold jewellery.
