Taking note of the poor quality of roads, Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi has directed BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan to submit a report on utilisation of funds for road works to the Lokayukta in person on January 7 at 11.30 a.m.
In a notice to the BBMP, Mr. Adi noted that of the road development work taken up between April 1 and September 30 this year, nearly 90.48 per cent is said to be of sub-standard quality. The quality report, dated October 28, 2014, was compiled by the BBMP’s quality control engineering section. It stated that of the 189 works executed in this period, 171 do not meet quality standards.
A complaint on the poor quality of works was made by Saidatta, president of Karnataka Janahita Vedike. Mr. Saidatta alleged that BBMP officials had misappropriated crores of rupees by permitting contractors to execute sub-standard work. He also held local political leaders and elected representatives responsible for the execution of sub-standard work.
The Upa Lokayukta noted that even after the quality control cell submitted its report, no action was taken by the BBMP. As many as 189 works were executed in the rainy season. He sought the reason for the same.
