July 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

Kripa Amar Alva, chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), said that she would write to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to allow the schools to continue. “Relocating this school will have a detrimental effect on the future of thousands of students. A majority of the students are from the minority community,” she said. She also pointed to the poor condition of the schools. For instance, the students she spoke to complained of water leaking into their classrooms during rains. Many students pointed to the lack of toilets on the campus. Department officials attributed these to the dispute over the land.
