A gang of four persons, posing as election vigilance officers, abducted a quarry worker in Tumkur on the pretext of enquiring about the money he was carrying on behalf of his employer.
Kumbaiah, a quarry worker who was supposed to deliver Rs. 10 lakh to a business contact in Tumkur on behalf of his employer, was abducted at the main bus-stand in Tumkur. The gang, travelling in a car, approached him posing as election officers seeking to ascertain details on the cash he was carrying and whether it was being used for political purposes.
They brought him to Peenya, where they took the money from him and dumped him on the roadside near Ramaiah Layout.
His cries for help attracted the attention of residents, who then followed the car and cornered them at a dead-end in Ramaiah Layout. While one managed to escape, three others were caught and handed over to the Peenya police. The three are Umashankar, Krishna and Yogesh.
