Playing to a packed audience, Hofesh Shechter Company’s ‘Political Mother’ received a good response here on Wednesday.

The critically acclaimed work was brought to the city by Impulse, The Hindu , and the British Council. The sponsors of the event were Casa Grande Private Limited, State Bank of India, The Swingers, Prakriti Foundation and Howard Johnson.

The show was performed by the international dancers of Hofesh Shechter Company accompanied by Shechter’s cinematic score featuring a band of live drummers and electric guitarists.

Niamh O-Flaherty, producer of the show, said that the show was well-received by audience in Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad as well. “We have got a really good response… great reactions, a lot of cheering and standing ovations. This is because people can connect with the piece. Hofesh’s style of dance is unique, distinguishable and identifiable.”

She said that the entire company has been “making nice links with the Indian artistes”. “We have had moments to connect with India. We are getting to see the traditional Indian styles of dance, music that make the fabric of the Indian culture. We would love to explore it further,” she said, adding that there is always scope for international collaborations.
