The South East division police will soon have a dedicated email ID specifically to receive grievances from persons from the North-Eastern part of India who are living here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police M.B. Boralingaiah said this during a grievance session held at a convention centre in Adugodi on Saturday, where over 200 people from Manipur, Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal, Meghalaya among others attended.
Among the concerns raised by those in attendance was the ill-treatment by locals, non-payment of salaries to those working in small business establishments and restaurants, and harassment from landlord who refuse to return deposits. “We regularly face instances of robbery and extortion...We have to deal with racist comments,” officials were informed.
Responding to the concerns, Mr. Boralingaiah said: “We have shared the phone numbers and email IDs with the community and they can reach us for help. We are trying to have regular interactions with the Associations of the North-East to ensure safety of the community members.”
Saturday’s interactive session was held barely five days after a 20-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh was allegedly beaten up and forced to lick his house owner’s shoes for using excessive water at his rented house in Arakere. The victim Higio Guntey, a fourth-semester student of Christ University, was admitted to a private hospital and approached Hulimavu police three days later to file a complaint. The owner of the house identified as Hemanth Kumar, an advocate by profession, has obtained anticipatory bail.
