The city police shot yet another career criminal in the leg in Kumaraswamy Layout in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police, who were tipped off that Mohammed Dastagir (22) was hanging around in a construction site in the J.C Industrial Area in Yelechenahalli, tried to arrest him. However, the police said, he pulled out a dagger and lunged at constable M.G. Abhijeet, who was injured in the scuffle. When sub-inspector Ashok asked him to surrender, Dastagir also attempted to attack him as well, forcing him to open fire.

Dastagir, who was hit in the left leg, was admitted to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

The police said Dastagir said had more than 15 cases against him including robbery, chain snatching, theft and murder attempts in Kumaraswamy Layout, Subhramanyapura and Jayanagar police stations for the past three years. Even though there were three arrest warrants against him in Subhramanyapura police station, he had been evading the police.

Tuesday’s firing is the third such police action in the last one week in Magadi Road and Rajanakunte.
