Police, robber injured in shootout in Varthur

An alleged mugger was shot at and injured by a police team after he attacked the police in a bid to escape in Varthur on Tuesday morning. Police Sub Inspector Raghu and two constables have also sustained injuries and have been admitted to Vydehi hospital along with the accused.

According to the police, Mr. Raghu along with two other constables rushed to the spot on a credible information that two muggers identified as Yallappa and Nagraj were fleeing the spot after allegedly committing a robbery. Mr. Raghu and his team managed to reach the spot and tried to catch the accused, following which the duo attacked the police with the lethal weapons and leaving them injured.

Mr. Raghu opened few rounds of fire in air from his service pistol before opening fire at Yallappa and injuring him. However, Nagraj managed to escape.

The Malur police have taken up the case for investigation.
