After nine days of confusion, the State government finally gave approval for the appointment of Kamal Pant as Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) on Wednesday.

The whole transfer issue snowballed into a major embarrassment starting with the government suddenly transferring Mr. Pant’s predecessor, T. Suneel Kumar, who challenged the order in court.

After replacing Mr. Suneel Kumar with Alok Kumar, the government transferred him to the Grievance and Human Rights as Inspector-General of Police and Mr. Suneel Kumar to the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, Bangalore.

But then Mr. Alok Kumar complained to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).

Based on the court’s direction the government sent three names: Kamal Pant, Bhaskar Rao and Parashiva Murthy for the Election Commission’s approval.

Finally, ending several days of confusion prevailing in the department, Kamal Pant took over as the Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) on Wednesday.
