The city police on Friday had to play the role of peacemaker with the agitated metro staff before they withdrew their strike after nearly seven hours. Protesters demanded the immediate release of their colleagues who had been arrested by the Halasuru police following a row with Karnataka State Industrial Security Force personnel over a trivial row.

Policemen were deployed at several stations to ensure law and order and also to see to it that the commuters would get public transport.

In the meantime, a team of senior police officials, led by Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemanth Nimbalkar, rushed to the Byappanahalli metro station and addressed the agitating staff.

Regarding the investigation into the previous day’s violence, he said the law would take its own course. Meanwhile the four people arrested on Thursday evening, identified as Rakesh I.B. and Harisha from BMRCL and Anand Guddad and Lakshman, KSISF personnel, were released on bail on Friday afternoon.
