Police impose curbs on revellers around M.G. Road

December 30, 2011 11:21 am | Updated 11:21 am IST - Bangalore:

With New Year's Eve round the corner, the city police have announced restrictions for revellers in the Central Business District (CBD) that includes restriction on walking on Brigade Road. A large number of people, motorists as well as pedestrians, traditionally throng Mahatma Gandhi Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St. Marks Road and Church Street on New Year's Eve.

In the interest of public safety and convenience it is necessary to restrict and regulate the movement of vehicular traffic and parking on several roads between December 31 and January 1, a release issued here on Thursday said.

While pedestrians can walk down the Brigade Road from M.G. Road, walking on Brigade Road from Opera Junction towards M.G. Road has been banned.

Entry, parking banned

Entry and parking of vehicles has been banned on Mahatma Gandhi Road — between Anil Kumble junction and Residency road near Mayo Hall; Brigade Road — from Cauvery Emporium Junction to the Opera Junction; Church Street Road — between Brigade Road junction and Museum Road junction; Museum Road — from its junction with the M.G. Road up to its junction with Old Madras Bank Road; Rest House Road — from its junction on Museum Road up to its junction on Brigade Road; Kamaraj Road — from Cauvery Emporium junction to Cubbon Road junction; and Cubbon Road — from its junction to Arts and Crafts Emporium and Residency Cross Road to Symphony Theatre junction on M.G. Road

Entry of vehicles, except police vehicles and vehicles of essential services on duty, has been banned on these roads from any direction between 8 p.m. on December 31 and 1 a.m. of January 1. However, parking has been banned between 4 p.m. on December 31 and 3 a.m. on January 1.

The police have diverted traffic on several roads after 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Vehicles coming from Queen's Statue junction on M.G. Road and proceeding towards Ulsoor should take a left turn at Anil Kumble Circle. Similarly, vehicles proceeding towards Cantonment areas from Ulsoor should take right turn near Trinity Circle and move further.

Parking allowed

Parking has been allowed on both sides of Kamaraja Road from Kamaraja Road junction to Commercial Street junction, inside Cubbon Park on Kings Road and at Shivajinagar Bus Stand area.

Special teams

The Bangalore city police have formed special teams — equipped with alcometers and breath-analysers — to check revellers driving under the influence of alcohol.

The teams will initiate strict action on the spot for violating traffic rules.
