Police gear up in preparation for counting day

The city police are taking no chances during counting of the votes cast for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections and have taken steps to ensure that the process is smooth on Monday.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that one Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) will be in charge of each of the 27 counting centres in the city. He will head a team of 200 policemen, 125 Home Guards, one platoon of the City Armed Reserve and two of the Karnataka State Reserve Police.

He said that prohibitory orders will be clamped in the city from 6 a.m. on Monday till midnight. The police have banned the sale of liquor in the city on Monday and have also cautioned against people moving in groups as well as carrying weapons.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban district M.K. Ayappa inspected five counting centres on Saturday.
