A crackdown against bars, restaurants and gaming parlours flouting rules flopped here on Saturday as news of the exercise seems to have got to the quarry earlier than the police.

As many as 22 special teams looked high and low to pounce on violators but returned without filing a single case.

As per the Supreme Court directions, women bartenders should strictly follow the dress code, have permission letter from their guardians and have their identity cards bearing their permanent addresses.

This is apart from the 10 strict guidelines laid down by the Police Commissioner on the dos and don’ts, which police say, are not being followed in many places.

As soon as the crackdown began in the Majestic area in the evening, many bars across the city downed their shutters immediately. “We have not booked any cases against live bands as many of them were closed,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kamal Panth said.

However, the police booked some cases against gaming parlours and around 25 lodges, Mr. Kamal Panth said and added that such illegal activities highlighted the failure of jurisdictional police to contain crime.
