City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi has written to major hospitals here to gear up for any eventuality in case former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa needs medical attention.

In the letter, a copy of which is with The Hindu , Mr. Reddi has written: “It is requested to keep a ward with emergency medical facilities in readiness and to reserve the same for emergency treatment, if need be, to be extended to Jayalalithaa, who is now in the central prison. Her blood group is O+.”

Speaking to The Hindu late on Monday evening, Mr. Reddi said, “Letters are routinely sent to a couple of government hospitals as a precautionary measure whenever a Z+ protectee is around.”

“We keep an ambulance ready at any bandobast. It is a precautionary measure which may come in handy during any eventuality,” he said.

C.N. Manjunath, Director of the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, rumoured to be one of the hospitals that the Commissioner has written to, said there was no official communication, though a VIP ward is always ready in the hospital.
