The Kamakshipalya police have booked a case of cheating against K.T. Gurumurthy, chairperson of the Shrusti Charitable Trust, for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs. 3.5 lakh after promising her IVF treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Labhuram said that apart from the complainant, 19 others too claimed of being cheated. “I have instructed the police to investigate to ascertain the competence of the accused and record the statement of others,” he said.

Refuting the allegation, R.S. Suma from Shrusthi Trust said that the victim had undergone only two cycles of IVF of the prescribed four. In 2011, Mr. Gurumurthy had been booked by the Mahalakshmi Layout police on the charge of possessing fake mark sheets. Reacting to this, Ms. Suma said that Mr. Gurumurthy had obtained his degree in embryology from Osmania University and also from Sikkim University. However, he could not produce the certificate to the police for verification as they had been burnt by vandals during a protest in 2011, she claimed.
