An activist has filed a private complaint in the Lokayukta Court alleging that Congress MLA Krishna Byre Gowda used his influence to make the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) overlook a major violation by the Bearys Group.
In his complaint filed on Wednesday, N.L. Srinivas has alleged that the Bearys Group’s Lakeside Habitat (commonly known as the Twin Towers) project at Hebbal is riddled with violations. He submitted documents to the court showing that the builder had permission to construct only 16 floors but violated the law and took the structure to 23 floors. He also told the court that the project’s promoters had encroached upon 42,000 sq. ft. of land was reserved for the construction of a public road.
Mr. Srinivas’s complaint also stated that a PIL was filed in the High Court against the alleged irregularities committed while the structure was being constructed itself. Consequently, the High Court had asked the BBMP to constitute a team to conduct spot inspections and submit a report in three months. BBMP’s report confirmed the violations but no further action was taken.
Mr. Srinivas told the court Mr. Byre Gowda had been allotted a large apartment in the same complex and alleged that it was a reward for exerting his influence and preventing punitive action against the Bearys Group.
Mr. Byre Gowda, promoters of the Bearys Group and several senior IAS and KAS officials, who served in the BBMP and the Bangalore Development Authority, have been listed as accused in the case. The complaint against the civic agency’s negligence comes even as it is involved in a massive demolition drive against “illegal” slum dwellers in Ejipura. The case has been posted for January 29.
