The clamour for the resignation of P.J. Kurien, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, just got louder. On Saturday, BJP’s national general secretary and Bangalore South MP Ananth Kumar said Mr. Kurien must resign immediately over his alleged involvement in the Suryanelli sex scandal case.
“There are serious allegations against Mr. Kurien. Given the severity of the allegations, he must resign,” he said. Mr. Ananth Kumar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a 61-foot-tall clock tower near South End Circle here.
He said the Centre was already bogged down by several scams. “The latest scam is the Rs. 3,600-crore helicopter deal with AgustaWestland U.K. What is shocking is the alleged involvement of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.”
Stating that an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation would not suffice, he demanded a judicial probe. “The CBI is a puppet of the Congress. Let the Centre form a committee comprising a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the scam,” he said.
Sign of development
He said the clock tower was a personification of the “development mantra” of the BJP government in the State. “The clock will remind citizens that the BJP has worked for development 24 x7 with its chimes.”
Special grants
Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok, who was present, agreed, saying that Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had allocated special grants for the development of the city, with emphasis on health and women.
He also said that there was no clock tower in the southern part of Bangalore and this one would become the new landmark.
