The Central Crime Branch (CCB), a special investigation wing of the Bangalore city police, raided a shop at Indiranagar on Monday and seized pirated DVDs of films including the recently released Kamal Haasan-starrer Vishwaroopam.
Two persons were arrested and pirated DVDs worth Rs 5.14 lakh were recovered after the Fraud and Misappropriation wing officials of the CCB raided the shop.
According to the police, the accused were selling DVDs of Vishwaroopam, Talash and Race 2 among others.
Explaining the modus operandi, police said the accused used to watch the movie on the first day first show, record the entire movie in a mobile phone camera and copy the recordings in a DVD format to make thousands of copies.
Such DVDs would be sold in open market for a throwaway price of Rs 40 to Rs 50 per DVD, the police said.
The police have also recovered three MP3 players, four mobile phones, the cameras of which were used by the accused to record, download and copy.
The seized items include 1,145 Tamil movie DVDs, 2,175 English movie DVDs, 360 Telugu movie DVDs and 425 Hindi movies along with 490 adult movie DVDs.
A case has been registered in Indiranagar against them for further investigations.
