A photo intended to showcase the discipline of the Karnataka police — tweeted by city police chief M.N. Reddi — boomeranged on him after numerous netizens took umbrage, on Saturday.

The picture of the police sports day meet’s closing ceremony on the KSRP grounds showed policemen getting drenched in rain, while guests stood on a covered dais. “Disciplined policemen standing in spite of heavy rain,” read out Mr. Reddi’s tweet.

However, over 20 people immediately responded negatively to the picture, which they said was akin to “torture”. The post also received numerous positive responses lauding the “dedication” of the police.

The programme began with Home Minister K.J. George and the participants observing a two-minute silence for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal.

Eventually, the rain forced the programme to wind up half-way through the prize distribution ceremony.
