They were all there at the second edition of the two-day ‘Bengaluru Pet Show’. Dogs, birds, rabbits and fish beckoned animal lovers at the show which got off to a start at the Jayamahal Palace Grounds here on Saturday.

Theme

The show embraced the theme of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in its own style. Event organisers urged pet owners to scoop their pet’s poop. Satya Narayan, one of the organisers, explained that for a clean country it was important for people to contribute by picking up after their pets instead of leaving lawns and roads dirty. Displaying a ‘poop scooper’ which costs Rs. 400, he said that Rs. 100 from the cost would be donated to the Tiger Protection Society, anti-poaching and anti-snaring programmes.

Exotic varieties of birds, Arabian, Persian and Norwegian cats, several species of fish, ducks and rabbits and imported hamsters brought together many pet lovers who spent time taking pictures and explaining to children.

While the golden Arowana fish was displayed for the first time at the show, some of the most expensive and rare breeds of dogs such as the Tibetan Mastiff and the Rottweiler, and the largest Saint Bernard in the country, were also on display.

A dog show by police dog trainer and canine behaviourist C.V. Franklin, a cat competition, and a quiz competition for children below 14 years made the event all the more interesting.

Apart from these, stalls with products such as home-cooked food for pets, accessories and even cab services for pets were major attractions.
