A pedestrian, who came in contact with a wire after falling near an electricity pole in Koramangala, was electrocuted on Wednesday evening. The victim, Dhanappa (50), was from Gadag and was residing at the Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha.
The police said that Dhanappa went near the pole to take shelter from the rain when he came in contact with the wire, which was five feet above the ground. On the other hand, Bescom officials, who went to the spot, said he was crossing the 80-ft road and fell near the pole while trying to avoid traffic. G. Sheela, General Manager, Quality, Standards and Safety, Bescom, said, “The deceased fell near a Bescom pole connected with a BBMP streetlight metering box with manual control, fixed 4.5 feet above the footpath. Due to imbalance, he caught hold of the flexible pipe used to run the connecting wire from the manual switch and the meter box. Due to that, the wire was pulled out of the flexible pipe, resulting in electrocution.”
A statement from Bescom said while maintenance of streetlights and its wiring are being done by the BBMP, the work of rectification of loose wires is being undertaken by the power utility.
