A cycle jatha to create awareness about the importance of voting was flagged off on Saturday by District Electoral Officer Siddaiah. According to a press release, 35 cyclists from Ride a Cycle Foundation participated in the jatha which passed through Residency Road, M.G. Road, Trinity Circle, Infantry Road, Shivajinagar, Vasanthnagar, Malleswaram, RMV Extension, New BEL Road and Mathikere.
The cycle jatha was taken up as part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaign. Mr. Siddaiah told journalists that the campaign was aimed at sensitising the public about the importance of participating in the electoral process so as to increase the polling percentage in the May 5 Assembly elections to at least 75 per cent.
He said the cyclists would cover two Assembly constituencies each day over the next five days.
