Pay tax dues through voluntary compliance scheme

Those who have failed to pay Service Tax between October 1, 2007 and December 31, 2012, have been asked to make use of the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme, 2013.

A release from the Service Tax Commissionerate, Bangalore, said that so far it had received 68 applications, involving revenue of Rs. 42.55 crore.

Immunity

The service tax declarants, under the scheme, will get immunity from interest, penalties and other proceedings, a release said.

Sources said that of about 1.2 lakh service tax assesses in the Bangalore Commissionerate, about 40 per cent have not complied with service tax payment.

Benefits

Those who have defaulted or evaded payment in the past can avail benefits of the scheme by paying at least 50 per cent of the dues before December 31, 2013, while the rest can be paid before June 30, 2014, without interest and by December 31, 2014, with interest, the release said.
