Now you need not fret in queues to pay your electricity bill. Instead you can pay from the comforts of home or office online (www.bescom.org) using your debit (Visa/Master) or credit card.

This facility was launched by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company on Thursday in Bangalore in association with IDBI Bank.

You will get the e-receipts through your e-mails after payment.

However, the e-payment has a ceiling of Rs. 50,000 per transaction. Every such payment entails a transaction fee of 1.5 per cent and service tax on the transaction fee. Bescom Managing Director Tushar Girinath said the additional fee would be reduced when the volume of e-payment increases.

Bescom will take steps to extend this facility to other cities and towns in its jurisdiction after reviewing the delivery mechanism of this service in six months, he said.

E-payment is the 12th option provided by Bescom to pay monthly power bills after payment through Bescom cash counters, anytime payment machines (ATPs), bill desks, bill junctions, easy bill counters, BangaloreOne centres, ECS, Karnataka One, Micro feeder franchisee, mobile cash counters and cheque drop boxes.

Additional Chief Secretary (Energy Department) K. Jairaj, who launched the e-payment facility in the presence of the managing directors of all the five electricity supply companies in the State, asked other Escoms to extend the facility in cities and towns in their jurisdiction also.

Record

Mr. Jairaj, who is reviewing the performance of Escoms, said Bangalore had achieved a record low energy loss level of 8.8 per cent, matching the level achieved by some power utilities in the country. The monthly revenue collection of Bescom has touched Rs. 550 crore, he added.
