Bagmane Tech Park (BTP), one of the prominent IT parks in the city, is in trouble. A portion of the tech park in C.V. Raman Nagar will be demolished in an early morning operation on Saturday for allegedly encroaching portions around the periphery of the Byrasandra lake.
Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore District G.C. Prakash said the verification of records so far showed that around five acres of Byrasandra lake had been encroached upon. “We have issued a notice to the tech park and other companies for eviction and have given them time to vacate the premises,” he said.
“Since the deadline is up, we are going to demolish the structure to recover the land on Saturday morning,” Dr. Prakash told The Hindu .
He said that apart from Bagmane Tech Park, there are around 11 companies which are on the encroachment list of which two have got stay from the High Court.
The officials have already summoned 10 earthmovers and sought police protection to prevent any law and order situation during the drive.
Dr. Prakash said that the drive was in compliance with the orders dated April 11, 2012 passed by the High Court of Karnataka in the Writ Petition 817/08, a public interest litigation petition. The tech park was developed and sold by the relatives of a former Chief Minister, who also served as a Union Minister, sources said.
The lakebed encroachment had been earlier highlighted by both V. Balasubramanian and the joint legislative committee headed by A.T. Ramaswamy that probed the issue of land encroachment. The BTP website says that the park has 10 structures on 52 acres of land with built-up area of 6 million sq.ft.
