Commuting by Namma Metro will become expensive for those who park their vehicles at Byappanahalli Metro Station and Swami Vivekananda Road Metro Station, from Sunday.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has decided to collect parking fee for vehicles at these two stations on hourly and daily basis after awarding the contract to Central Parking Services.
Rates
The parking fee for cars would be Rs. 20 for the first four hours and Rs. 5 for every subsequent hour. The fee for parking throughout the day (from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.), however, would not exceed Rs. 50.
For two-wheelers, the fee would be Rs. 5 for the first four hours and Rs. 3 for every subsequent hour. The fee for two wheelers for the whole day would not exceed Rs. 25. For bicycles, the parking fee would be Re. 1 per hour and Rs. 5 for the whole day.
BMRCL general manager (Finance) U.A. Vasanth Rao told The Hindu that the licensee would pay Rs. 25 lakh a year to the corporation as the licence fee for the contract. He said asphalted parking surfaces at Byappanahalli (2,600 sq. mt) and wet-mix surface at Swami Vivekananda Road (2,500 sq.mt) stations are ready. While contract for Byappanahalli is valid for three years, that of Swami Vivekananda Road is for one year.
Conditions
The tender conditions specify that the contractor should deploy reliable, efficient and trained staff to manage the parking lots, after getting their antecedents verified by the police. The attendants should be well-behaved and courteous while dealing with Namma Metro commuters, the BMRCL said. The attendants should don uniforms supplied by the contractor, prominently displaying their names.
Stipulations
The licensee should demarcate the area, fix automatic lifting barriers and install ticket counters with facility to issue computerised parking tickets that indicate time, date and amount.
The contractor should fix boards displaying the parking fee prominently at the entry and exit points of the parking lot.
Cars belonging to BMRCL staff and other official bodies associated with Namma Metro would be exempted from paying the parking fee.
