Parents protest against school fee hike

Around 400 parents of children studying in Presidency School in Kasturinagar, Bangalore East, staged a protest on Saturday outside the school premises against the management’s decision to increase the annual fees.

According to Rajesh, a parent, who works in a private company, the matter has been raised repeatedly over the past month and a half. The college, however, allegedly dismissed the demands of parents, who have also complained about the quality of infrastructure and teaching.

Many of the protesters informed the school that they would not pay the fees until the hike was rolled back. Although parents have said they would pull out their children from the school and have asked for transfer certificates, they claim the school rejected their request. The threatened to intensify the protest and said they would approach the District Education Regulation Authority on Monday.

Thanga Durai, principal, said the fees had to be increased to develop infrastructure. “The whole issue has been triggered by a few parents. We are calling parents to the negotiating table and some of them have been cordial by agreeing to talk to us,” he said.
