Parents file negligence complaint against anaesthetist

The parents of R. Abhishek (16) have filed a complaint with the Basaveshwaranagar police on Thursday accusing Panacea Hospital’s anaesthetist of causing their only son’s death by negligence. S. Ramesh, who was initially reluctant to file a complaint, was later convinced by the police to do so just to know the exact reason for his son’s death.

Based on the complaint, the police have taken up the case and sent the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. But Abhishek’s parents refused permission for the post-mortem at the Victoria Hospital. They suspected that the report could be sabotaged as the surgeon, Shankarappa, who was to have operated upon Abhishek at Panacea Hospital, was also a professor at Victoria.

The police then took the body to KIMS, but doctors there turned them away saying the case was complicated and demanded a letter from police officials. Finally, the police prevailed upon Abhishek’s parents to stick with Victoria, Assistant Commissioner of Police M.B. Uttappa said.
