A security drill conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at Forum Mall here on Saturday caused mild panic.

Several people put out tweets about the “bomb blast”. The panic soon turned to relief when it became apparent that it was merely a drill to check the response time and preparedness of the emergency response units of the city. As part of the drill, two loud explosive sounds went off at 10 a.m. at the mall, following which police, fire and paramedical personnel stormed the building to conduct a rescue operation. The 45-minute operation, led by B.K. Khanna of the NDMA, involved 14 government departments and 30 hospitals.

A similar drill was conducted last week at the Chamundi Hills.
